In the story of creation, God turns chaos into order and man lives in God’s abundant love. Then evil enters the world, chaos returns and death pursues man back to the dust from where he came. In the world today, man’s greed has brought about economic chaos man’s lust for power has brought about death and destruction. The Church is not exempt from man’s weaknesses and as more of the faithful leave the Church, there is a desperate need for evangelisation, for the ‘Spark of Light’ as Pope John XXIII called it, to be re-ignited in the hearts of the faithful.

Fortunately, we see in Matthew’s Gospel that God’s work is not the result of human strength, nor is sin a barrier to God’s plans. As the psalmist sings, God watches over those who obey Him and destroys those who oppose His will.
