The Lord gives very precise instructions for the construction of the Ark that will carry the tablets of stone on which God will write His covenant with His people.
The purpose of the Ark was to enable God to be close to humanity and as a sign that He would offer his protection to His chosen people if they obeyed Him. Noah would receive a similar blueprint for the construction of the Ark that would protect the chosen few from the wrath of God that would literally rain down upon the earth, destroying every living creature and all trace of sinful mankind, whilst providing human kind with a second chance through Noah and his family.
In spite of the many warnings and messengers, we know that God was ignored by His people who constantly disobeyed his commandments. In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus warns his disciples to be prepared for the time when the Son of Man would return. Whilst no-one except the Father knows when this would be, Jesus does not expect us to remain awake and on guard 24/7, as we might if we were expecting a burglar.
No. But he does expect us to be prepared in our hearts, for the Son of Man will return when we least expect him.
We should therefore spend our time wisely, thanking God for each new day and asking forgiveness for our transgressions when we turn in for the night. In between, we should care for his people, love one another and share the Good News at every opportunity.
