Whilst on holiday in Northern Brittany earlier this month we noticed two churches in the vicinity where we thought we would be able to attend Sunday Mass. Unfortunately, on closer inspection both were not only closed, but chained and padlocked with the sign ‘Acces Interdit’. There were no Mass times, not even the name of a priest, nothing.

On Sunday we visited the nearby town and everything was open; shops, cafes, restaurants, the beach, everything. Except the church.

I wondered where God had gone as He did not appear to be in the lives of the people in that area. Perhaps that is why Pope Benedict XVI is so concerned about the New Evangelisation, particularly in Europe.
