There is much debate about Syria both at the G20 and among individual governments. The British government voted against a punitive attack following the apparent use of gas which killed innocent civilians including children recently. The US is currently debating similar retribution supported by the French whilst Russia is warning against it.
It therefore falls to the smallest state in the world – the Vatican – to take the lade and Pope Francis has done just that. Reminding us that ‘war begets war’ and that the use of violence does not resolve problems, Pope Francis has called on the world to join him for a day of fasting and prayer this Saturday, September 7. I agree with him. We must trust in God and pray that he plants a solution in men’s hearts which leads to peace.
