Many of us have been horrified by the barbaric treatment meted out by Islamic State, ISIS, ISIL or IS, (whichever name they choose) to hostages who have been detained illegally. Even some ordinary Muslims have the spoken out against the behaviour of those who claim to be members of the Islamic faith.

But is Islam a religion at all? Here is what St Thomas Aquinas had to say:

“He (Mohammed) seduced the people by promises of carnal pleasure to which the concupiscence of the flesh urges us. His teaching also contained precepts that were in conformity with his promises, and he gave free rein to carnal pleasure. In all this, as is not unexpected; he was obeyed by carnal men. As for proofs of the truth of his doctrine, he brought forward only such as could be grasped by the natural ability of anyone with a very modest wisdom. Indeed, the truths that he taught he mingled with many fables and with doctrines of the greatest falsity.”

Aquinas is clearly saying that Mohammed was no prophet of God, as his behaviour and teaching was clearly out of step with Scripture, both Old and New testament. St Paul wrote:

“Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18.

If Mohammed was not a prophet, then the ‘faith’ he founded is a falsehood. As Catholics we must pray for all Muslims, as they have been misled by this falsehood and only God, the God of Abraham, who sent his only Son Jesus Christ to save us, can deliver them from the evil that is Islam.
