Biography

I was educated by the Jesuits at St Michael’s College in Leeds which I left at the age of 16 years. I worked for a short time in a department store before beginning a career with the Halifax Building Society. After three years I decided that the financial world was not for me and chose instead to join the police and served both in North Yorkshire Police and later West Mercia Constabulary, retiring in 2007 after a varied career.

Whilst serving in the police, I earned a BA Honours degree from the Open University and worked part time for the OU as an Associate Lecturer.

After retirement, I worked part-time as a teaching assistant at Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School Hereford, taking responsibility for the liturgical life of the school and also attained Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) status. It was during this time that I embarked on his studies for a Master’s degree.

In April 2010 I moved on to establish a ministry providing a variety of services to Christian establishments, organisations, events and conferences and including administrative services to a local Catholic Parish.  More recently I gave a series of talks on the New English Translation of the Roman Missal and the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.

By July 2011, I graduated with an MA in Theology from the University of Wales, Trinity St David and in October that year, decided to turn my attention to re-writing the Master’s dissertation for publication as an ebook. This is has been published on Amazon and is available here.

In my spare time I enjoy cycling, reading, photography and listening to music – an eclectic collection that ranges from Eric Clapton to Mozart, Paul McCartney to Faure and much in between! It includes a variety of classical and contemporary music from both the Christian and secular genres.

I am a practicing Catholic who is active in the Belmont Abbey Parish. I love reading the Bible and have finally read it in its entirety.

In 2004 I first became aware of Catholic Charismatic Renewal and attended the first Hereford Catholic Conference in the autumn of that year. Since then I was involved in helping to organise the conference and Celebrate Wales which was inaugurated in May 2011. We were regular attendees at the Celebrate Conference in Ilfracombe each Easter and at the Celebrate weekends in Cardiff and Bristol. The Renewal re-kindled my faith, enabled me to be Baptised in the Holy Spirit and brought me into a deeper personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Now, I recognise the need to evangelise every day and in every situation but realising the need for a greater depth of knowledge and understanding of my own Catholic Faith, in February 2015 I started studying the Catechist Foundations Course for the New Evangelisation at the School of the Annunciation at Buckfast Abbey.

In November 2017, in order to improve fitness and lose weight that was creeping up, I took up road cycling as a serious hobby and became involved in a whole new community – Spot-on Coaching. It provides many challenges and sometimes an opportunity to share my Christian faith in surprising ways.

I live in Herefordshire with my wife, we have three wonderful children, and two gorgeous grandchildren who provide us with a whole new raft of pleasure!
